MORE THAN A TROPHY
A collection can change your career.
Emma Boyle of Steph Meyer and Co came to us with a clear idea: a ballet collection where every look had its own character – the ballet girl, the bitchy ballet girl, the posture and personality behind the tutu. That collection earned her a place on the 2025 AHIA Hot Shots team, one of just four hairdressers under 31 selected that year.
Hot Shots opens doors to industry icons, mentoring and creative projects most hairdressers wait years for. When we asked Emma what it would do for her career, she didn't hesitate.
"Yeah, it's huge."
— Emma Boyle, AHIA Hot Shots 2025

HOW IT WORKS
With you from first idea to final entry.
We met with Emma Boyle six times before her shoot day. Her collection put her on the Hot Shots team.
THE CLIENT STORY
From finalist to back-to-back winner.
Dani Blakeley of Yoshiko Hair started shooting with us in 2024, already a regular on the finalist list. Together we pushed her work somewhere new: one clear idea per collection, bolder casting, and a look she'd never shot before.
Three years. Two state titles. 14 finalist placings.
"If you keep striving and you keep perfecting your craft…"
— Dani Blakeley, VIC/TAS Hairdresser of the Year 2025 & 2026
Kurt and Nathan. Opposites, mostly.
We've been shooting together for about 15 years, which is longer than most marriages. We're opposites in most things. The one thing we always agree on is the picture.
Hair has been our thing from day one. We've shot for TONI&GUY, L'Oréal Professionnel, Redken, Matrix and Kérastase, landed covers and editorials in Hairdressers Journal, Estetica, InStyle and Hairbiz, and been named finalists for Best Beauty Photographer at the international TCT Awards.
We take the work seriously. Ourselves, not so much. If you want a shoot day that's relaxed, a bit of fun and gets the shot, you're in the right place.
We even wrote the book on it: Making The Cut, our free 45-page guide to planning an award collection shoot.
In their words.
-
“Their work is phenomenal and super organised, but most importantly I felt comfortable every step of the way. I’ve definitely found my photographers for life.”
Cristina Tatasciore, Flipped Hair
-
“Words can’t describe how professional these guys are, not to mention what a fun day it was working with Nathan and Kurt.”
Anthony Nitson, Anthony Nitson Hair
-
“Exceptional photographers, committed to perfection with an eye for creative detail. Most importantly, they understand how to photograph and work with hair.”
Steph Meyer
-
“I couldn’t have chosen a better company. I’d recommend these guys to everyone.”
Morgan Richards, TONI&GUY
FAQS
The practical stuff.
-
Photography and creative direction starts from $3,600 for the day. Retouching is on top, at around $300 per final image.
The other costs depend on your collection: models are roughly $250 an hour each, a makeup artist is about $1,200 for the day, and a studio or location runs $1,000 to $1,500 a day. Depending on the size of your salon, we may be able to shoot there instead and save you that cost. Once we know your categories and how many looks you’re shooting, we’ll send a full quote.
-
We can. We have agency connections and a group of hair models we use regularly. Where you can, we’d recommend pro models: they move better, hold a pose longer and look right on camera.
Some categories need you to cut or colour the hair, and not every agency model will agree to that. Tell us early if your looks need a big change, so we can find models who are happy to commit.
-
We book the makeup artist, usually Shev Kelly, so that’s one less thing on your list. Wigs and wefts are generally organised by you, the hairdresser.
-
Allow a minimum of two weeks after the shoot for the final retouched images. More time is always better, so book your shoot with your entry deadline in mind rather than right up against it.
-
In thirds. A third when you confirm the shoot, a third on or before the shoot day, and the final third when your images are delivered.
-
As early as you can. We only take a limited number of collections each season, and the weeks before entries close fill first. AHFA entries close 15 February 2027 and AHIA on 5 April 2027. Work back at least two weeks for retouching, then add some breathing room.
BOOK A SHOOT
Lock in your 2027 shoot date.
We take on a limited number of award collections each season, and only one shoot a day, so your collection gets our full attention. The months before entries close fill first.
Pick a date below and tell us about your collection. We'll come back within one business day with availability and a quote. Rather talk it through first? Email info@annissbarton.com.au and we'll set up a quick call.
